Perfect alignment at panel junctions

Hi, I'm Phil Hall, Technical Manager at Button-fix. How do you get perfect alignment between panels? We'll show you one way we do it.

When butting up panel edges, it can be difficult sometimes to avoid steps, especially if the panel bows due to environmental conditions. Using biscuit joints, splines or a floating tenon are all good ways to keep the edges flush, and they can also help reduce the number of Button-fixes required to keep the panels flat.

One quick and easy method is to use a biscuit jointer, and add biscuits into three or four points in the panel height, like in this example. We install them dry into a close-fitting slot.Note that the panels will need to be installed sideways, on Type 1 Fixes, for this to work.

This is fine as Type 1 are as strong this way as they are in drop-down orientation.Install the panel ensuring the biscuits engage and push fully home until the edges are flush.
