PET acoustic panels have become popular, especially as they are often manufactured from recycled post-consumer waste such as water bottles. However, they are commonly glued to sub-panels or directly to walls, making them difficult to remove, reconfigure or reuse elsewhere. Mounting the panels with Button-fix, on the other hand, makes removal easy.
Using Button-fix allows for easy removal for cleaning, reuse, or recycling.
Type 1 Flush or Type 3 Fixes can be screwed directly to PET panels, using the correct length screws.
They also improve the acoustic properties compared to a directly glued panel, as they have an 8mm stand-off from the wall.
The Button Marker tools can accurately mark the Button position on the wall, making them very easy to install.
If several panels are positioned butting together seamlessly, then the Type 3 push-on Fixing is ideal: It allows a small degree of lateral adjustment, to give very accurate, tight clearances. It can be used on walls or ceilings.
For general use, Type 1 Flush is ideal; the keyway fitting works on walls or ceilings.
Also, Flush can be used on corrugated PET panels, such as those from De Vorm, with the Fix longitudinally fixed along the crest of the corrugation.
Type 1 Flush can also be used on the edge of 25mm PET hanging panels.
Even thin 9mm PET can be attached using the correct screws, which should be tightened very lightly by hand; most torque settings on battery screwdrivers will be too strong. Below is a basic screw guide for mounting Fixes to PET panels:
Many other screws will work satisfactorily; just ensure the screw point doesn’t protrude through the PET face!
Note that for Type 3, the Button fixing screw on the wall shouldn't be overtightened; it should be nipped up, but still allow the Button to move enough to allow adjustment. This way, adjacent panels can be adjusted to give seamless junctions.
For Type 3, when removing a panel, concentrate on a single Fix at a corner, and 'peel' the panel away; this will ensure the panel isn't creased or damaged.
We often receive inquiries regarding fixing to plasterboard or drywall; here's a brief summary of ways we have tested and found to work well.
