Button-fix provides the anchor for refurb

When P&O Sea Ferries needed two of its on-board food and beverage outlets refurbishing quickly and to a high standard, specialist marine outfitting service, Blu Marine selected Button-fix concealed fasteners to help it complete the refurbishment.

P&O Ferries operates busy ferry services across the English Channel, North Sea and Irish Sea. The refurbishment project included renewal of its food courts on two of its family-friendly ferries, the European Causeway and the European Highlander. Creation of a comfortable dining environment with cushioned banquette seating was also specified in the fit-out.

Tasked with completing the refurbishment within a punishing time frame of just 14 days for each vessel, Blu Marine needed to source a quick and accurate method of positioning and anchoring the backs of banquette seats, and one where the fixing mechanism did not intrude on or undermine the look and feel of the bespoke seating arrangement. The invisibility, incredible strength and ease of installation offered by Button-fix made it the obvious choice for Blu Marine.

Using approximately 350 Button-fix Type 1 fasteners, Blu Marine secured the backs of the banquette seats to the substrate. This allowed for a discrete and secure fixing that could be fastened quickly and efficiently.

Sander de Haas, Project Manager at Blu Marine, said: “I had heard of Buttonfix from a colleague, and thought it would be an ideal solution for this fit-out. Easy to use, the Button-fix Type 1 allowed for a hidden fixing that didn’t require glue or cause damage to the backs of the seats.”

Julie Freedman, Head of Sales and Marketing at Buttonfix stated: “Accurate and secure installations are of vital importance aboard ferries, as passengers require optimum comfort and as much stability as possible.

“And for high footfall spaces such as ferries, dealing with wear and tear is always going to be a key consideration in future-proofing any fit-out, so using Button-fix fasteners for this sort of installation makes sound financial sense: seat backs can be easily removed, repaired and replaced without causing any damage to the substrate or seat, and without the need for any additional fixing materials.”
